Teen mental health help in Los Angeles

The Blackburn Group helps Los Angeles parents get one-on-one mental health care for their teen, including therapy, psychiatry, testing and a teen Concierge Outpatient Program of 3 to 5 hours a week around school. Call (888) 305-5422 to talk with a real person about what you are seeing.

Parents often notice something before they can name it. A teen who used to talk now stays in their room. Grades slip. Sleep changes. Friends change. There may be vaping, drinking or a scary comment. It is hard to know what is normal for a teenager and what needs help. You do not need to be sure before you call.

Teen care at The Blackburn Group comes through Blackburn Clinical Services, our clinical area of service. Families can also get mentoring and family support from other areas of service in the same organization.

What happens when you call

We listen to you first, as the parent. Then we help you figure out the right next step for your teen.

Here is what usually happens when you call (888) 305-5422:

  • A real person answers or calls you back, and listens first. You do not need the right words or a diagnosis.
  • We ask a few simple questions to help sort out what is going on. We want to know who you are worried about, what has changed, what has already been tried, and what feels most urgent.
  • We point you to the right team inside The Blackburn Group, or to an outside resource if that fits better.
  • Nothing is shared with anyone without consent. If the person you are worried about is an adult, we talk about what they have agreed to share.

We will ask about school, sleep, mood, safety and any substance use. We will also talk about how your teen feels about getting help, since teens tend to do better when they have a voice in the plan.

Who we help

We work with teens and the parents who love them.

  • Teens dealing with anxiety, low mood, stress or big changes in behavior.
  • Teens who are struggling in school and may need testing to understand why.
  • Teens who are using alcohol, cannabis, vapes or other drugs.
  • Teens who need more support than a weekly session, but want to stay in school and at home.
  • Parents who want coaching on how to respond, set limits and stay connected.

Our guide on signs a teen needs mental health support can help you sort out what you are seeing. When you are ready, call (888) 305-5422.

How we work

Care is one-on-one and built around your teen, not around a group schedule.

  • Teen Concierge Outpatient Program. One-on-one care for 3 to 5 hours a week, scheduled around school, for teens who need more than a weekly session.
  • Individual therapy with a clinician who works with teens.
  • Psychiatry for evaluation and medicine when it is needed. Read what happens at a psychiatric evaluation.
  • Psychological and neuropsychological testing to understand attention, learning, mood and more. See our guides on neuropsychological evaluations and ADHD evaluations.
  • Gene testing that can help inform medicine choices.
  • Family coaching so parents have a plan too.

Learn more on our clinical care page. Many families also add one-on-one mentoring through Blackburn Mentoring, which works with high school students alongside, never in place of, clinical care.

What parents can do now

Small steps at home can make a difference while you line up care.

  • Pick a calm moment to talk, and lead with care, not questions about grades.
  • Listen more than you speak. You do not have to fix everything in one conversation.
  • Keep medicines and alcohol in the home secured.
  • Talk with the school counselor if school is part of the stress.
  • Take any talk of suicide or self-harm seriously, every time.
