ADHD testing in Los Angeles
The Blackburn Group offers ADHD evaluations for teens and adults in Los Angeles through Blackburn Clinical Services. A careful evaluation helps you find out whether ADHD explains what you are seeing, or whether something else is going on. Call (888) 305-5422 to ask about getting started.
Trouble focusing, losing track of time, missing deadlines and feeling restless can come from ADHD. They can also come from anxiety, depression, poor sleep, substance use, a learning difference or a hard season of life. Often it is more than one thing. That is why a good evaluation looks at the whole person, not just a checklist.
Blackburn Clinical Services is the clinical area of service within The Blackburn Group. That means the evaluation does not have to be the end of the road. If the results point toward therapy, psychiatry and medication management, or more detailed testing, the same organization can help you take that next step.
What happens when you call
The first call is short and practical. You do not need a referral to start the conversation.
Here is what usually happens when you call (888) 305-5422:
- A real person answers or calls you back, and listens first. You do not need the right words or a diagnosis.
- We ask a few simple questions to help sort out what is going on. We want to know who needs support, what has changed, what has already been tried, and what feels most urgent.
- We point you to the right team inside The Blackburn Group, or to an outside resource if that fits better.
- Nothing is shared with anyone without consent. If the person you are worried about is an adult, we talk about what they have agreed to share.
For ADHD questions, we will ask who the evaluation is for, what is getting in the way at school, work or home, and whether there has been testing before. If you are a parent calling about a teen, we will talk about how your teen can be part of the process. If ADHD testing is not the best first step, we will tell you and talk about what might help more.
Who we help
We work with teens, college students and adults across Los Angeles who want real answers.
- Teens whose grades, focus or mood have changed, and parents who want to understand why.
- College students who managed in high school but are struggling to keep up now.

How we work
Each evaluation is planned around the person and the question you want answered.
In general terms, an ADHD evaluation includes a few parts:
- A conversation about history. When the problems started, how they show up now, and how they affect school, work and relationships.
- Questionnaires. Often filled out by the person and, with permission, by a parent, partner or someone who knows them well.
- Testing when it is needed. Some questions call for more detailed psychological or neuropsychological testing of attention, memory and thinking skills.
- Looking at other causes. Mood, anxiety, sleep and substance use are part of the picture, because they can look like ADHD or travel with it.
- Results and next steps. You get a clear explanation of what was found and what the options are.

After the evaluation
An answer is only useful if it leads somewhere. We help with what comes next.
Depending on what the evaluation shows, next steps might include individual therapy, psychiatry and medication management, school or work planning, or a closer look through neuropsychological testing. For teens, the one-on-one Concierge Outpatient Program offers 3 to 5 hours a week of care planned around school. Some people also find that one-on-one mentoring helps them build routines and follow through.
If medication is part of the plan, some people ask about gene testing for psychiatric medication. Your clinician can tell you whether it makes sense for you.

Questions
Do you test both teens and adults for ADHD?
Yes. Blackburn Clinical Services offers ADHD evaluations for teens and adults. For teens, parents are part of the process, and we talk about how to include your teen in a way that feels respectful.
Can anxiety or depression look like ADHD?
Yes. Anxiety, depression, poor sleep, substance use and stress can all affect focus. A careful evaluation looks at these too, so the answer fits what is really going on.
What is the difference between an ADHD evaluation and neuropsychological testing?
An ADHD evaluation focuses on attention and related problems. Neuropsychological testing looks more broadly at thinking skills like memory, attention, language and problem solving. Some people need one, some need both. We help you decide.
What happens if the evaluation shows ADHD?
You get a clear explanation of the results and the options. Next steps might include therapy, psychiatry and medication management, or school and work planning. You decide what to do with the results.
